The pretty British village ranked UK’s best destination this summer | UK | Travel
While many Brits might be looking to flee abroad this summer, the recent heatwave has proven that summer temperatures can reach us right here in the UK. One village in particular has now been crowned the nation’s number one trending summer destination.
TripAdvisor has revealed the top UK destinations among British travellers for summer 2026. The top spots were selected by assessing searches on the site between February and April this year for travels between June and August. TripAdvisor then ranked the spots based on year-on-year growth.
Grasmere is an enchanting village located in Cumbria, a county in the Northwest of England and on the border to Scotland. The spot was ranked number one and is adored for its picturesque scenery and charming cottages.
Visitors can stop by one particularly notable cottage too – the former cottage of British poet, William Wordsworth.
Dove Cottage invites tourists inside to a house the poet once described as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”.
Grasmere is also home to exciting food spots. The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop sells a chewy spiced biscuit invented in 1854. The half-biscuit and half-cake is only available in a few select places now, so visitors would be lucky to give it a try.
The village is also highly rated for its pubs like Royal Oak, Traveller’s Rest Grasmere and Michelin-star restaurant, Forest Side.
Elsewhere in the village, tourists can take a peaceful stroll by Grasmere Lake, through White Moss Wood or the circular Grasmere Riverside Path, which offers a trail just under 2 kilometres.
The river stays relatively quiet all year round and is particularly ideal for swimming, rowing and also paddleboarding.
Past visitors have taken to TripAdvisor to share their thoughts with one reviewer writing, “Lovely little lake. Very nice walk round. Beautiful little village too. Had a nice day there. All the right shops and lovely little pubs cafes etc. Easy walk round the lake and nice beachy bit to stop for a rest and let the dogs swim & play.”
Another wrote about the lake: “I live in Western Australia now, but this is by far the most beautiful place I have ever swam. It’s a half mile walk from White Moss Car Park, and very worth it.”
Other top UK destinations for this summer include Carbis Bay in Cornwall, Belfast in Northern Ireland and Bowness-on-Windermere – another Cumbria spot.
