It’s not been a good start to the week for thousands of Microsoft Outlook users. The hugely popular email service was hit by some serious gremlins yesterday, Monday, April 27, with many unable to log into their accounts, check their emails or send new messages. The issues began around lunchtime and were finally fixed late last night.

Microsoft confirmed that it had found the cause of the problems with the US firm, saying, “System telemetry indicates that the service remains healthy.”

Although that’s good news, it seems many are still having issues, as reports are still flooding into Down Detector’s outage monitor this morning.

Social media still full of people complaining they can’t log in with one Outlook users named James saying, “Why is outlook STILL down? Have some very important emails (like many others around the world ) please get it together. This is ridiculous now 24 hrs and STILL GETTING NOTHING!!!!”

And another named Lydia adding, “Are You Still Down? This Is Crazy!!”

Luckily, it seems there is a simple fix.

Microsoft has now confirmed that iOS users, such as those on Apple’s iPhone, will need to follow some simple steps and log back into their accounts.

“iOS users must take additional steps to re-enter their password to successfully access Outlook accounts,” Microsoft confirmed.

If you have an iPhone and are struggling to get into your Outlook emails, follow the advice below, and that should rectify things.

OUTLOOK ADVICE FOR iPHONE USERS

• Firstly, open the Settings app on your iPhone.

• Then scroll down the list of settings and tap on Mail.

• Next, select Accounts under the Mail settings and tap on the email account for which you need to re-enter the password.

• Tap on Account Settings or directly on the Password field.

• Enter the updated or correct password and tap Done to save the changes.

• Finally, Open the Mail app to confirm that the account is syncing properly and emails are being sent/received.

Once this is all sorted, you should get access to emails again.

“We’ve confirmed service health has returned to normal and reporting users that have completed the additional steps are now able to access Outlook and Hotmail,” Microsoft said.

“We’ll keep this post up for 24 hours to ensure users are able to review and take the mitigating actions.”
